To elaborate, it's a wallpaper for our new card game we're coming out with.

Did this one as a quicky at a coffee house.
Crappy quality for the win.

Watercolor Sketches

A guy asked me to sketch up some t-shirt design ideas, here they are. They were based on a quote he wanted in the design,"When thy fingers grasp the paintbrush,it is as if thou wert at prayer in the temple", which I thought was pretty sweet.

St. Sound Update

Threw some colored pencils on that geetar.

St. Sound

A piece I am currently constructing. I'll probably ink the guitar because it seems pencil is too light against the wood burning. The frame is just slices of 2 x 4 and the backing is some random wood I found.

More Sketchezzzzz

Another round of sketches, still done fairly fast. The last one of the old man took some time only because of all the dark patches, but overall fairly fast.

Also, here is a hipster chimp.

A Sort of Freedom

I'm not sure why I never did it before...it's a sort of fear I propose, of mine anyway, a fear of drawing something that looks so horrible and incoherent to true anatomy or physical objects.

Today I went on a scribble spree, I made lines, pen constantly laying down ink in scuffs, and when the dust cleared I found I liked what I saw better than my normal sketches or studies. However, it doesn't seem to work yet with drawing from things I can physically see, I do best in this style if I'm drawing from my mind.

Most of these took from 10-45 seconds with no initial layout pass.

I've been faithfuuuuuuul

I swear I've been doing a drawing a day, they just haven't been digital. Here's the thing...I no longer have photoshop on my comp, and I need to buy a copy from the school...let the real physical drawings begin! I'll post them soon enough.

Color Sketches

I think this might be exactly what I need. I've been putting it off for so long for a couple reasons: 1. I really don't like working directly from reference, and I always feel like I'm wasting my time when all I feel like I made is a duplicate of the photo.
2. I'm not that great at lighting most of the time and therefore I don't really like doing it.

These past artistic guests have inspired me however, and I've decided that I'll give it a shot. Both of these are pictures of friends that I have taken, I'll do some building and landscape ones next. These took from 7-10 minutes. And yes, he was making a pretty bizarre face.

Pascal is a man

Just like the title says. This man has skills, he has completely mastered the art of simplicity and emotion. SO, like everyone else and their mom I'm going to try my hand at some Pascalian sketches. I also think it's humorous that not too long ago I posted that abstract simplicity painting.
15 minutes, I aint as fast as he is. I'm going to TRY, TRY to post a sketch a day, even if it's super sucky. Also, I've found a new simple (but very informational) past time; I'm going to call it light snacking, it's where I open the color dropper window, open a photograph, and sample the lights and darks of different materials to see where they fall in reference to saturation and darkness.

Pink Medusa

I wrote this song which is called Pink Medusa last year for my band; more or less it's about how lust and promiscuity look appetizing but are horrible monsters and can consume you in the end. I always had the idea for an image in my head but I've just now decided to begin it's fabrication. There are some nudsies, so click responsibly. Here is the initial sketch.

Update 1: Cleaned up the linework. Evidently this is what adonihs does before he starts painting, and he is a beast, so I'm going to give it a go. The lack of snakes is due to Photoshop pooping itself after I was close to finishing them...Once again, be prepared for a bit of nudity. BAM.

Update 2: Trying out some different color schemes and I think I've settled on this one; the background obviously isn't done so the color is just so I can better see what I'm working with. Snakes are back, but not very colored. I feel like the texture for the snakes is going to be mind numbingly frustrating, but we'll see if we can make it work. And yep, she's still nude. SHIMMY.

Update 3:Darkened some areas and started to block in some colors for the snakes. I'm thinking I definitely like doing precise lineart first, it helps a lot with detail, and soon I'll be making the lineart invisible and cleaning up just the colors. I kind of like the smoke blowing around her, but I might end up doing something a little more graphic 2D. SHWAMMY.

Update 4: I don't know why I didn't keep it to one post all along...Hid the lineart and cleaned up the color. Still putting off the snakes. Also, does anyone actually read this blog? BOOMP.

Break 1: Took a break from Ms. Medusa to play with the new tablets wrought from the hands of the gods and so graciously given to the Becker lab. These are also known as Cintiqs and are incredible. Quick sketch I did on one.

Update 5: Never again will I color a Medusa....at least not in the next ten years. These snakes are so irritating, and it doesn't help that I've never really drawn snakes before. I tried to do the hair as all one piece of color and make the different snakes by darkening areas...not so much, just didn't look contrasty enough. I've now separated each of the snakes into a different layer so I can manage each of the shadows individually, which is working a bit better. I'm working with 43 layers currently with a handful hidden for various uses.

Update 6: So close to being done! After this I just need to do a little edge cleaning, fix a couple light issues, and add a couple more textures. SHWORP.

Morning

Tried to keep it loosey goosey and do something more color oriented.

RIGGED

Finally I got my main character rigged! Still needs a bit of weighting but for now I'm pretty happy to see him move...scratch that, I'm absolutely ecstatic to see him move. The last one made me giggle uncontrollably because it's so dang hot.

More Sketchage

Decided to get some manly men on.
OH, I had a epiphany while sketching this that may help some of you drawing with a tablet.
It's so very simple, haha, stupidly simple, but it seemed to make the experience much more natural feeling. So there I was, warming up and drawing ellipses, and I was trying to figure out why I couldn't do it as well as I could with physical pen and paper. AND THEN.
I propped up my tablet so it was at about 45 degrees and boom, better ellipses.
I know, stupid simple right?
I think it's because my brain doesn't have to calculate the angle of the screen against the angle of the tablet as much...or something.

Womanly Sketches

I'm going to start trying to do more practice with my tablet; more or less I've only produced finished pieces with it and I still don't feel like I'm not as comfortable with it as I am with actual physical media. SO, I've decided to loosen up. How scandelous. I'm also digging bizarre color schemes lately.
